Our client is a leader in the design and manufacturing of niche technology solutions for research and production applications. From simple components to precision and computer-controlled systems, our client works to devise sound, economical solutions for all of their clients engineering needs. They are currently looking for an Assembly & Test Engineer to join their team in Hastings (4 month contract).


Testing and installation of standard and custom products, sub-assemblies and coating systems. Test mechanical or electrical assemblies from schematics or work instructions of a lower to higher complexity. Install equipment in the field and train customers on the use of equipment.  Fault identification of equipment both in the factory and at customer’s site.

Key Job Elements:

  • Testing of any level mechanical and electro-mechanical assemblies or coating systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical assemblies as well as software troubleshooting.
  • Able to carry out Root Cause Analysis
  • Maintenance of accurate records
  • Thorough understanding of software navigation and PC operation
  • A thorough understanding of product schematics and operation
  • Thorough understanding of vacuum technology and thin film deposition techniques and processes
  • Ability to perform helium leak detection and perform basic analysis using an Residual Gas Analyzer (RGA)
  • Customer interaction and on-site installation, service and training
  • Travel typical
  • Write operations manuals for coating systems
  • Assist Service Department with post-sales support
  • Training of other engineers and  technicians  on proper methods and techniques regarding assembly and test tasks
  • Ability to safely use standard tools and portable power equipment
  • May include some basic manual machining capabilities
  • Perform work in a logical, orderly and skillful manner while maintaining a high level of quality workmanship
  • Understands department KPIs and works towards meeting these
  • Understands H&S implications and follows procedures necessary for safe working
  • Clean and maintain work area
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds required
