Pest Control is a growing sector driven by the community’s concern for high hygiene standards, as well as legislation such as the Food Safety Act.


Our client is a UK-wide provider of pest control services to the commercial and domestic sector. They have many franchisees all over the UK and are looking to complete their footprint. They already operate national contracts to some well-known brands, although the bulk of the portfolio are local contracts that have been built throughout their network, which rely on personal service and trust on both sides. They are members of the BPCA (British Pest Control Association) so you know they comply with industry standards.

This business is yours. You can be an owner-operator in a specific territory, or plan for something bigger with sales and service people. Either way, you have the benefit of being part of something bigger, with an established brand and reputation to back you up, as well as proven systems and training programmes to support you. The work is hugely varied and interesting, and you’ll work with commercial customers who will expect regular service to prevent pest problems who will, in return, expect regular invoices as well as domestic customers on ‘one-off’ jobs. This has the capacity for a stable business with excellent cash flow.

Our Client has a number of marketing channels and expertise including high ranking websites that produce enquiries on a daily basis.

This is a role where you can make a real difference to you customers; while you build something that has a tangible value you can sell at a time of your choosing.

THE CANDIDATE – Qualifications, skills and experience

You will be independent minded, but enjoy being part of something bigger. You don’t need any technical knowledge (as training is provided for those who need it), but you will need to be good with people, a quick learner, and had a stable experience in a customer-facing role where you needed to use your initiative.

This isn’t a 9 to 5 role. You will need work around your customers, but what you put in is directly related to the rewards, so a strong work ethic is essential.

Other qualities needed:

  • Willing to be able to negotiate sales and use your network to develop leads and publicise your business
  • Willing to be taught and trained and to take on board and understand new ideas
  • Able to drive
  • Good with people, and be able to listen as well as talk
  • Enjoy being out and about in all weathers
  • Customer focussed
  • Determined to succeed and not quit at the first hurdle

Financials and Rewards

The upfront investment is from £16,500 + VAT plus some working capital to support you as you establish your business, and to arrange a suitable vehicle. Business loans can be available from banks that are already supportive of the franchise network. You’ll get a great starter kit of uniform; supplies and equipment, which should help you, generate your first £5,000 of sales. Your personalised web pages and social media platforms will be designed whilst you are in training and your marketing supplies ready for when you return back to your business. Vehicle livery to get you noticed and personalised stationery is also part of the extensive “starter pack”.

The first year will be spent building the business and establishing a contract portfolio to support a long-term revenue stream. Our client can share various scenarios and very happy to give you full access to the existing franchise network so you can understand real examples of what it’s meant to others.

Finally there’s a value in the portfolio you build. This can be sold on at a time of your choosing.

The Engagement Process

The client is aiming to limit annual intake to ensure they have the correct resources in place to give the new franchisees every support so they can succeed. There’s full programme of due diligence, which starts with an initial screening with Martin Ellis at the RSE Group – he can give you more insight and context to what this is about. You’ll then move on through a “Discovery” meeting at the franchise headquarters, as well as being offered a selection of current franchisee’s to chat to so you can complete your own thorough examination of this commercial opportunity. Eventually, and only when you’re ready to proceed, you’ll complete a Letter of Intent and start planning for a new and successful chapter.
