Head of IT – J1411ME
Job Reference: J1411ME
Job Location: Central London
Salary: Up to £70,000 DOE.
Job Type: Permanent
Do you like big challenges? Are deadlines and doing part of your internal DNA? Do you prefer to do your own thinking, and can you convert that thinking into a strategic IT plan that has clear intent, deadlines and commitment? Can you then share and inspire that commitment across an influential organisation with multiple sites and international scope? Clients are from private and public sectors. This is a complex organisation that requires clear and visible IT leadership pointing to the next 3-5 years and beyond.
OUR CLIENT COMPANY
Our client has a reputation for strong technical expertise in services and products to sectors, both public and private, that make robust claims about efficiency, sustainability and the environment. They also have an unusual vision to do ‘good’, as well as a commercial imperative that combines for an intriguing and authoritive position in the market. This is a sizable organisation with a large UK footprint – as well an international vision that’s already turning into something tangible.
We will be pleased to provide our clients company name to qualified candidates at the end of the first screening telephone interview.
This new role reports directly to the CEO. You’ll be leading strategic IT development across the organisation in the context of a recently completed strategic IT review, which points to a destination, but not the route to get there. That’s your job. Theory is all very well, but this is all about delivery. This is intended as a permanent position, but our client will consider a fixed-term contract as long as the individual is around to complete the critical parts of the strategic timetable.
Our client is in a very strong position to exercise leverage from its expertise and technical muscle, but the moment is now and needs to be grasped. Most IT services are currently outsourced, and that contract hits its renewal point in September 2018, so there’s no better time to set a strategic course and create an IT platform that works for all stakeholders, internal and external.
The IT plan will encompass automation and digitalisation, security, the technology framework and integrated business support systems, as well as establishing IT policies, procedures, methodologies operating performances and performance standards.
You will also manage multiple 3rd party IT providers as well as manage the small internal IT team.
We are pleased to share the full Job Description to all relevant applicants.
You’ll be an experienced IT leader with an outstanding understanding of the technical options available as well as a well informed view of the future IT landscape. Sector experience isn’t important, but working with complex stakeholder structures, internally and externally, and probably where the public sector has formed a significant part of the client portfolio is important. Some level of international exposure would also be very useful.
- You’ll have led IT teams from the front. You are visible, active and action orientated.
- You are able to do your own thinking and turn that into a plan that the organisation adopts enthusiastically at all levels.
- You are likely to have formal Project Management experience – Hitting deadlines is important to you.
- Experienced managing IT change programmes including cloud based services
- You are used to managing 3rdparty suppliers, holding them to account, and negotiating service agreements and SLA’s that delivery the best value.
You’ll possibly have an interest in the environment and sustainability. This isn’t critical, but in the context of this organisation, it would be good to share common values.
LOCATION & HOURS
The client recently moved into modern offices in Central London office. It’s a full time role that’s formally 40 hours a week, but interim or a fixed term contract would be considered. Some travel, occasionally international, may be required, but it’s likely to be limited.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
The basic salary is up to £70k depending on skills and experience. There’s also an excellent benefits package and travel expenses are available.
INTERVIEW PROCESS AND STARTING DATE:
The target start date is as soon as practically possible depending on notice periods. Before that will be a screening interview with Martin Ellis of the RSE Group. Thereafter will be two interviews at our client’s offices, as well as a psychometric assessment.
