#NWED2016 Recognising Women in Engineering 2016 #raisingglasses
Amongst the forest of men, you would find it hard to find a woman with a high-powered techy position. Today we celebrate women in engineering and it never fails to amaze me how few women hold technical roles. Those that do however are smashing it! They are leaders, business owners, innovators and creators. Here at the RSE Group we are raising a glass and celebrating those women with fabulously high powered jobs!
Some of our favourites include:
Tamar Yehoshua, Vice President of Product Management at Google
Yehoshua joined Google in August 2010 and has led Google’s all-important efforts to bring Search to all sorts of devices and many languages.
Her team’s work, particularly with voice-activated search, has led to a host of other projects like Google Now and Android Auto.
In 2013 she explained her mission: “The goal is to be providing the answers before we even ask the questions.”
Well, we can’t argue with that can we? And with the return of our very own #TimPeak, we have to choose an Italian astronaut as our second favourite.
Samantha Cristoforetti, European Space Agency astronaut
In November 2014, Italy’s first female astronaut, Cristoforetti, moved into the International Space Station for a six-month tour. She began tweeting photos and posting videos of life in space that has turned her into an international social media star. Cristoforetti holds the records for longest single space flight by a woman and for the longest uninterrupted spaceflight of a European astronaut.
How impressive is that! Finally, we are really impressed by Jen.
Jen Fitzpatrick, Vice President of Engineering and Product Management at Google
Fitzpatrick leads the product and engineering teams for Google’s local products, services like local search and Google Places. Last fall she was also handed one of Google’s most precious services, Google Maps.
She’s been at Google since 1999 and in that time, has worked on a huge number of Google projects like AdWords, Google News, corporate engineering and the Google Search Appliance.
Congratulations ladies for all your achievements and hard work. You are an inspiration to all! Here’s to #womeninengineering – #NWED2016. We are #RaisingProfiles and #raisingglasses to you all! Cheers!
