South East Based – circa £45k/£50k package

This new business development role nods to sustainability, CSR and the environment. OUR CLIENT COMPANY

Our client has a reputation for strong technical expertise in services and products to sectors that make robust claims about efficiency, sustainability and the environment. They also have an unusual vision to do ‘good’, as well as a commercial imperative that combines for an intriguing and authoritative position in the market. This is a sizable organisation with a large UK footprint.

THE JOB

Reporting to the Senior Business Development Manager, this role has many facets, but they all end with sales that build growth and spread the organisation’s footprint. You will develop and manage a mixed pipeline of proposals with sales cycles that can last from days to months, building and managing relationships along the way. You might be selling consultancy services to a commercial company in the morning, and data management and analysis, or energy insights, to home improvement organisations in the afternoon. You may be presenting one-to-one or to groups, as well as following up on opportunities over the phone or by video link.

There is a mix of products and services that come off the shelf, as well as solutions that are weaved to draw on a broad framework of offers that create something of direct value, however that may be expressed. You will help manage a portfolio of existing clients, warm prospects, and dormant accounts, along with developing your own business and lead generation as your development allows.

You will learn to take control of the sales process and understand where you are every step of the way.

THE CANDIDATE

Following graduation, you will already have started a sales-based or commercial career with strong customer-facing elements. That could be face-to-face or from an office. That experience is likely to have been with an organisation that adds value through service rather than just selling products in a one-off sale. Building sustainable business networks are at the centre of what happens every day.

  • You are eager to learn and grow and to push yourself beyond your comfort zone.
  • You have experience crafting and presenting professional solution-based proposals and quotes, and following them through to close the sale.
  • You may well be experienced with selling in a digital/data/software/marketing solutions environment, or with a digital/marketing services background.
  • Excellent formal and informal communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • You are organised, enjoy multi-tasking, and good with data and detail.
  • You are likely to have a science-based degree or an equivalent.

Specific sector experience is not as important. What counts is sensitivity to a wide range of audiences, and the ability to create interest with proven commercial purpose.

LOCATION & HOURS

You are likely to live in the South East corner and ready work out of their central London office, as well as travelling to communicate complex proposals, or where there are multiple stakeholders who can influence the buying decision. It’s a full-time role that’s formally 40 hours a week.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

OTE is circa £45k with a basic salary IRO £28k-£30k plus commission or bonus. There is an excellent benefits package and travel allowance.

INTERVIEW PROCESS AND STARTING DATE:

The target start date is as soon as practically possible depending on notice periods. Before that will be a screening interview with Martin Ellis of the RSE Group. Thereafter will be two interviews at our client’s offices, as well as a psychometric assessment.
