Reckon you’re a nimble-minded B2B sales professional with an eye for commercial opportunities that can be complex but need to be made simple? This new business development role nods to sustainability, CSR and the environment. You’ll need to demonstrate great listening and communication skills just to get past first base. You will not get bored!
OUR CLIENT COMPANY
Our client has a reputation for strong technical expertise in services and products to sectors that make robust claims about efficiency, sustainability and the environment. They also have an unusual vision to do ‘good’, as well as a commercial imperative that combines for an intriguing and authoritive position in the market. This is a sizable organisation with a large UK footprint.
We will be pleased to provide our clients company name to qualified candidates at the end of the first screening telephone interview.
Reporting to the Sales Director, this role has many facets, but they all end with sales that build growth and add to the bottom line. You will develop and manage a mixed pipeline of large and small proposals with sales cycles that can last from days to months. You might be selling consultancy services to white goods manufacturers in the morning, and data management and analysis to home improvement organisations in the afternoon. You may be pitching one-to-one, or bidding and presenting to groups and panels.
Products and services don’t come off the shelf, so you’ll need to weave solutions that come off a broad framework of offers and create something of direct value, or that organisations are able to present as strong differentiators in their own complicated and competitive market places.
You’ll be meeting sophisticated decision-makers who need the reassurance they’re dealing with a professional, but you’ll not allow the details to stall progress either. You take control of the sales process and know where you are every step of the way – but you’re used to that.
Complex? Yes. But it would be dull otherwise.
You will be a professional sales person who can demonstrate a maturity of behaviour and purpose. The successful candidate will come with a wide range of different experiences, but they will meet the following specific skills and attributes:
- You have a strong, demonstrable, and recent experience selling across multiple sectors and able to speak their language with authority.
- You can craft professional solution-based proposals and quotes, present them to individuals, or boards, and close the deal.
- Experiences bidding and making formal presentations.
- Excellent negotiation skills.
- Excellent formal and informal communication skills, both written and verbal.
- You’re organised, and you also enjoy multi-tasking.
Specific sector experience isn’t as important. What counts is sensitivity to a wide range of audiences, and the ability to create interest with proven commercial purpose.
LOCATION & HOURS
You are likely to be in the South East corner and work out of their central London office when you’re not travelling. However, candidates from further afield will be considered where their skills set makes them compelling. It’s a full time role that’s formally 40 hours a week.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
OTE is circa £60k with the greater proportion being basic salary plus commission or bonus. There’s an excellent benefits package and a car allowance or travel expenses will be available depending in geography and circumstances.
INTERVIEW PROCESS AND STARTING DATE:
The target start date is as soon as practically possible depending on notice periods. Before that will be a screening interview with Martin Ellis of the RSE Group. Thereafter will be two interviews at our client’s offices, as well as a psychometric assessment.
