The East Sussex College Group includes campuses at Hastings, Eastbourne and Lewes. They focus on providing excellent training for all kinds of students and work closely with local employers so they understand what skills are in demand today and tomorrow. They are developing a “Teaching Academy” to power up their capacity to meet those needs, especially in engineering and digital.
The goal is to have you enjoy teaching on your own within 24 months. Initially, you will be, coached and mentored throughout your training period through to your qualification Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) or Certificate in Education (CertEd) which normally takes 2 years. Once qualified you can elect to develop your training further still so you’re teaching advanced students through to degree level. Students are young and old, experienced and inexperienced, and come from all walks of life. It’s a lively and enjoyable environment in which to develop and share your new teaching skills.
You will have a relevant qualification in your subject area and have at least 2 years of recent experience working in your discipline.
Otherwise, all you need is the capacity to learn new skills and an enthusiasm to be surrounded by eager students and share what you know.
You will be an outstanding communicator and have an equal capacity to talk and listen.
LOCATION & HOURS
The College Group has campuses in Eastbourne, Hastings and Lewes. Each campus leads on selected skill sets, so for example, Hastings is the centre for Higher Education although teaching is spread across all sites. The working environment is supportive, friendly and stimulating. Staff turnover is low, mainly because everybody is working together for the same thing.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
The opening salary is between £20k and £24k, depending on skills and experience. This will grow on increments up to £34k, and occasions to £39k depending on the skills shortage area. All training and qualification costs will be borne by the College. There are 37 working hours per week, some of which can be worked flexibly (such as when course work is being marked), and 50 days annual leave PLUS public and seasonal holidays. An excellent contributory pension scheme is also offered alongside subsidised refreshments and food.
All the early stages of the recruitment will be undertaken by the RSE Group who will pre-qualify all candidates. Please note that the college does not yet have the capacity to handle all enquiries, so direct applications will be filtered through the RSE Group to ensure a consistent matching process is completed. Thereafter, the RSE Group will introduce suitable candidates to The College Group who will complete the recruitment cycle on a one-to-one and personal basis.
